No payout

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

My mother has had a long term supplemental policy since 2003 with this company. Her premium was over $700 a month so one can imagine how much money she paid out into her policy.

When it came time to payout (about $9000, far under her cumulative premium over 14 years), Bankers life claimed she was in a six bed facility, not a ten bed facility like the policy stated. When I sent them proof that there were two buildings attached (12 beds) they then claimed that since there were two separate licenses on two buildings (same company though) they would not pay out. This company is only interested in taking premiums, not doing the right thing. Do not buy a policy from them!

They will find a way to avoid a payout. Read the very fine print.

I am 76, now have Parkinson's, and after paying more than $18,000 to BL (they keep the interest of course), I too cannot get reliable information, only the run around. I am told different stories, especially since the Customer Service is in Jamaica. Does anyone know of a consumer lawsuit?

Talked today with the agent Jeffery mcwherter and he stated bankers is sending out a check today

Original review Oct 11, 2016
took out a life policy when I received the policy it was not what I wanted. returned policy to bankers in downtown Chicago in person within the thirty days of receipt.I paid $80000.00 up front for the policy.

Policy stated if canceled my money would be refunded in full within twenty days. Its been forty days and company says they know nothing about the eighty thousand. Continue to stall me and say the person I handed the policy to at their office doesn't exist. I notified the Illinois dept of insurance.

The agent was a Jeffery mcwherter.

Have not heard from him was only able to leave message. Do not deal with this company

Do Not Buy Long Term Care From Bankers Life

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
My husband and I paid into our Bankers Life Long Term Care Policy for 16 year. My spouse had to be admitted to Assisted Living. Every month since then Bankers has made my life a living ***. They pay out the wrong amount , it takes another month to get that settled, it is a continuous struggle to try and get them to do the right thing. They play games with you on the phone, loose documents and have no interest in getting the dispute settled. They are a terrible company to deal with. Take your business and money elsewhere .

I would recommend going to the local office or writing an email.

HIPAA laws require proof of identification(verifying information) when calling into an office so I imagine it might be even more difficult to communicate by text.

Make an effort to go over to the local office.

Very unhappy with this company. Poor service and not able to get bills paid with our long term care policy.

I have been working with this company for nearly one year. I have jumped through more hoops than I can count. My husband has a long term care policy, I have P.O.A., we have met the 90 day period which we are required to fund, and now having lots of trouble getting them to pay the bills. It has gotten to the point where I despise getting our mail because most days we receive some kind of communication from them, and most of the time it is incorrect. I would certain appreciate an opportunity to talk with the CEO of the company. He cannot possibly be aware of what is going on!

Document request

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I have been calling Banker's Life since Februray 15, 2016 regarding a claim check that we never received and they are telling us it has been cashed. I requested a copy of the back of the check but after 6 phone calls, I keep getting different stories as to when it will be processed and mailed out.

Tried asking for a supervisor but of course she is on the other line and has no idea when she will be finished. We all know how that will end-no call back.

This company says they can't just fax or email it-is that crazy? This is a simple request.

Unfortunately my father purchased a LTC policy from these crooks. He has had to live in a nursing home for the past 4+ years due to dementia. I have had to deal with these crooks the whole time to get reimbursement for his care and have never dealt with such a bunch of jerks in my life! They do everything and use every excuse to not pay valid claims. They only pay for personal care, not for rent or any other expenses. Buy from another REPUTABLE company, not this one.

Yep, had the same problem, even a year after my mother passed. These folks simply don't want to pay out on their policies after the policy holder passes, and they will make it next-to-impossible for you to get your funds as a beneficiary.

BEST ADVICE: KEEP SHOPPING FOR A COMPANY WITH BETTER REVIEWS!

COMMON SENSE- ALL OF THESE REVIEWS CAN'T BE MISTAKEN!

Getting claims paid fairly is a joke!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
My father has a long-term care policy with this company. He is now in a nursing home and we filed a claim with Bankers Life. They will try ANY and EVERY trick in the book to deny a valid claim. From "we never received the claim," to "the date was in the wrong place on the invoice so we're unable to pay this," to "this is a duplicate claim that's already been paid," (it wasn't), Bankers Life will do any stall tactic they can get away with, regardless of how unethical or outlandish it is. When you call customer service, it's clear that Bankers Life employees are trained in these types of tactics. What's truly repugnant is that this company believes if they play these games long enough, people will get tired and simply give up. And many elderly people with no one to advocate for them probably have. I've had to call customer service EVERY MONTH to ask why my claims aren't being paid and I get some different, lame excuse each time. I'm getting really tired of it.

Client - Very disappointed

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
My financial adviser is with Bankers Life & Casualty (Topeka Office) and his superior, both have not being honest with me, were giving me the runaround, and made 'promises' to return my calls, and neither my agent or his superior followed through with returning calls. Both would promise to call me with information . . . but neither would follow-thru. I had to call the Banker's home office to inquire about the information that I needed. Apparently, I was just not a significant enough client for them to extend the respect that [any and all] clients deserve. If I could start over, I would very carefully do my homework on retirement financial advisers, and would probably bypass Bankers Life & Casualty. Just be cautious with whom you trust your money.

Deceptive waste of time

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I was in a meeting and got a call and excused myself and some woman who I could barely understand was talking about a job interview for a management position in a company that sells insurance to seniors. I was busy, so I just asked her when and where and she gave me in the information and told me to bring my resume and dress professionally(no ***!). That was a bit of a red flag, but I was looking for extra work, so I decided I would go. Walked in expecting a legit job interview and the guy tells me it's a group interview(uh oh) and to have a seat and fill out a personality test. Now, I kind of figured this was going to be some ***. As more and more people came in, I was wondering what I had gotten myself into. Some people looked very professional, but most looked like they had never been to a professional, office-setting type interview before. Next, *** McGee(I'm not going to use his name because I'm a halfway professional guy, unlike Bankers), the branch manager comes in in a 150 dollar suit and haphazardly tied tie and I knew this was going to be a waste of my time. He asked everyone to give a brief work history, so clearly he'd never even read anyone's resume before calling them. There was a dude who built guitars, some carpenters, landscapers, retail associates, people that hardly spoke English, and sadly a lot of older professionals who had just lost their jobs. He starts talking about the perfect financial storm and all this ***. Baby boomers going to turn 65 and we can stick them with insurance and poorly performing annuities! Lucky them! I figured I'd at least have some fun and was enthusiastic and answered all his questions. He was excited someone was into it because everyone else was thinking WTF am I doing here. He talked about how successful he was and how he had a golden spoon job before and quit the same day he came into Bankers because it was such an awesome opportunity. Yeah right. Basically told everyone if they were willing to work hard(most people are), they would make it BIG. How he had all these agents making 6 figures and some approaching 7 figures. I kept smiling and I think he thought I was happy, but really I was just amused. He talked about 50k dollar quarterly bonuses and trips all over the place and the best part is that these things are achievable with just some hard work! ***, I've been working hard for almost 18 years, but I guess I just was unlucky that I hadn't found Bankers yet! He said, "Those who qualify will get a 2nd phone interview tomorrow." Guess who qualified? Everyone. LOL. Everyone just lined up after and made their appointment. I made mine and then sent them an e-mail to cancel it. This whole process made me angry. I was under the impression that I was going to a one on one interview for a management position. The only position they wanted were sales agents. Their tactics are deceitful and downright dirty. They called anyone with a pulse because the recruiter gets paid per person that comes in and the branch manager reaps huge benefits by hiring people who are trusting and who he knows will fail. They know full well that they're dealing with desperate people and they exploit that. They make everyone think they can be successful and while it's your responsibility to make decisions, they present it in a way that is convincing and attractive. I'm sure people who are hurting sign on all the time and then get screwed. You have to pay for recycled leads and the best leads are taken by the branch manager. As a new agent, even if you generate the lead by yourself, you're splitting the commission and paying THEM for a lead you got. If you sell policies and then quit, guess what that manager is going to do? Go to your clients, cancel the policy you wrote and write them a new one. Then you will have to repay the commissions even after you've quit. They know you'll write policies to your friends and family and when you leave, some of them might stick to their general ledger and not be cancelled. It's in their interest to hire people they know will fail because then they never have to pay commissions. The true sales people who stick around and are willing to hard sell a vulnerable branch of society might make some money. And they'll make more money from YOUR commission splits as a new agent. There are probably some good sales people who actually do care about the seniors, but I bet it's 1 of 10. This comes across as a business run by greedy sociopaths who get rich off of suckers, both their customers and employees. If I were really interested in sales, I might take the exams, use their training for 3 months and then quit and go independent or find a better agency with better products and practices. Sorry to burst everyone's bubble who reads this, but this "job interview" is a path to nowhere for 99.9% of good people.

Thanks for the review. I also got contacted by this company after posting a resume on Monster.com, and also spoke to a woman who was difficult to understand about setting up an "interview".

It didn't make a lot of sense to me, so I started looking online for stuff about this company, and found this review. Then everything fell into place.

This is definitely NOT a job interview I'll even bother showing up for. You saved me valuable time.

Why are you still charging premiums for my Dad who died in 2012?

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Bank statements indicate withdrawals for premiums for monthly coverage for my Dad--the most recent withdrawal was 6/15/15. He died in July 2012. We have called repeatedly to get this resolved and have heard every excuse in the book. "There's no agent assigned to this account." "The deduction is for your Mother." (Really? Then why are you making monthly withdrawals for premiums for my Mother? And why is it in my Dad's name? I'll be that argument would not hold up in court.) "The premium is for your mother's in-home care. (Really? Even though she's in assisted living and we're paying for that through them?) This is ridiculous. Class-A Rip-off. I love the statement on Banker's Life and Casualty website that says: Customer Service You Deserve. What did I ever do to deserve that kind of customer service. This is the kind of service that gives insurance companies a bad name.
