i have worked for the company for over 9 years and love what I do. Helping people daily is a great reward.

the people that complain about this business are people who are looking for an easy job.

It is sales. The sales business is hard.

Yep, had the same problem, even a year after my mother passed. These folks simply don't want to pay out on their policies after the policy holder passes, and they will make it next-to-impossible for you to get your funds as a beneficiary.

BEST ADVICE: KEEP SHOPPING FOR A COMPANY WITH BETTER REVIEWS!

COMMON SENSE- ALL OF THESE REVIEWS CAN'T BE MISTAKEN!

Bankers Life And Casualty Company in Grand Rapids, Michigan - Liars and Thieves

The branch manager always talks about integrity. However it was only when it was convenient. Managers fake drug tests, agents fake signatures, complaints come in which are never reported as required. He knows this stuff is happening but refuses to do anything about it. Claims are very slow even though we are told in the interview process that they have the fastest claims processing in the industry. Half of my time is spent dealing with customer complaints. The other half is spent trying to set appointments with people who have been called dozens of times and if you are lucky enough to schedule an appointment they don't have enough money to afford it. We are encouraged to still sell to them even though it is not in their best interest. It is no wonder that agents and managers leave this office in droves. Beware of this company. I am resigning next week when I have a REAL job.

You'll not get a different story from any former agent. The agents never seem to 'get it'.

If they talk about the poor guy/agent who was 'Gryphened' out, they'll talk about you too, when they decide to can your as*. If it doesn't happen sooner, it will later. If you can write business, they'll let you until they can take your renewals, and rewrite your business. They, in fact, promise all new branch managers that they can have all the veteran's business, as incentive.

Old business is always submitted as new business, to keep those numbers up, and those reserves low. Hello, anyone got the number for the state investigators? Oh, that's right they already fined them through the multi-state market conduct study, complete with penalties, which they 'budgeted' for, then, of course, paid. So what, that's the cost of screwing new agents and clients.

Defend them if you will, but know, we are not wrong.

If you don't think agents know the low grade so called company they operate, check consumer affairs, and see the 100% complaint ratio they have there. Don't go there, and keep them away from your seniors.

You are right about the badmouthing of agents after they choose to leave or are forced to leave. I saw it myself.

One day they are your friends and buddies and the next it was about how *** they were or what a loser they were. We were even discouraged from calling agents after they left. Seriously?

I should have seen through the BSMs slick bs and never gone to work there. He was only out for himself and his fancy car.

Everything you both have said goes on in all the offices. It is their operational objective and is taught in all offices.

Ask any former agent and you will be told the same story in different words. The trust build up, the tear down, the we wish we could keep you, or if you had only worked that weekend, your success would have been garanteed. The, 'I was here for you', if your not a closer your a loser, you should have lost weight, dyed your hair, shaved/grew a beard, asked for the appointment more, and lied better to Granny, this outlook/leadership model is taught and expected.

After that, the 'systems' and 'the company' take over. The standardized rewriting of business, the suddenly created 'charge backs', the threat letters,....complimented by the 'bad mouthing' of all who 'left', read shut out by the controlled Gyphen/DoNotCall system routinely, after the 90 days of BS resulting in the office account getting a grand for each victim, they wave good bye and twist that knife in the back one more time, as each 'failure' leaves with their head hung down, or madder than two MF's.

Keep up the good reporting, it will get the word out,... but the managers will get complimented, especially on their ignorant remarks about the elderly, gays, newbie agents, etc. which BTW, I've heard stated in a much more derogatory words in a different branch office, in addition to other bigoted comments that can demean anyone who is not 'like them' (whatever that is). Oh, wait, I think that means, everyone who is not willing to lie, cheat, and steal from peers and consumers at the 'manager' meetings.

I was there too for a while and I saw the same shady things going on. If you were a manager you could do anything you wanted.

You could show up when you wanted you could leave when you wanted. If an agent did these things they were reprimanded and a notation was made in their file. Too many of these and they said I didn't fit the "culture". What culture is that?

A culture that is rotten to their "core values". A culture in which managers rode the backs of the agents for their own personal gain. A culture where anything was possible as long as you did not get caught. A culture where we were encouraged to lie to people on the phone saying that we would come out to provide them with additional information when in actuality it was a hard core sales call.

I agree with the original poster.

The office in Grand Rapids Michigan is a terrible place to have worked. I don't even put it on my resume because I am so embarassed to have been fooled by the BSM into working there.1

Sorry, but you and the person who commented below me are IDIOTS. I work for Banker's Life & Casualty.

I assure you this is not a scam. They are an insurance company who has been in business longer than the lightbulb has been around. Her boss was only available on certain days of the month because we are only in our office certain days of the month. The rest of the days we spend sitting down with retirees and helping them with their insurance needs.

As far as the job goes, obviously you have never been an independent contractor or have any idea how that works. They make it very clear it is a COMMISSION only job....unless you move up to management. With that being said, to sell insurance, you have to be LICENSED to do that. This obviously costs money and you can get the information for that directly from your states department of insurance website.

I am so sick and tired of people giving our company a bad name because they're not intelligent enough to figure these things out. Doing this job takes a lot of hard work and effort with no guarantee of success. However, you truly make as much as the effort you're willing to put in. The first month, I only made about $1000.

I made that in a week the second month.

This is the complete opposition of a dead end job. I'm almost out of my SNA and look forward to improving at what I do.

Take it from an experienced agent that the client is not to blame. Yes they should read what they are siging but they are counting on the licensed professional to advise them in the appropriate way to handle these things.

The client could be a little more careful but the agent is completely at fault here. This client should report this agent to the insurance comission in his or her state.

Read the complaint again. The policy was 'sent' after the sale by the crooked agent.

If you had any concern, which obviously you don't, you would know where the crooked blame is. Since you are that delusional Bankers agent we've been talking about, we understand that in your so called mind Bankers can do no wrong. The thousands of complaints, fines, violations, state investigations, etc.etc.ect.

is all someone's crooked fault....right. You exemplify the exact nature of the problem.

Bankers Life And Casualty Company in West Bloomfield Township, Michigan - Bankers Life and Casualty

This scam is alive in Livonia, Michigan. I should have checked for this information before I wasted time at the so called interview this morning. I was informed that there were specific career related positions open that I had been applying for online and when I arrived it was for a career briefing session for sales insurance jobs. I asked the check in girl what was going on and stated that I was there for an interview and she tried to direct me to a conference room. I asked if there were specific jobs that I had been led to believe were available and she said no. I left and I want my gas and time back.

I got a phone call from them this morning, same place I think, the one on Marriman road in livonia michigan. I had never heard of this company before but she claimed that management had seen my resume on Monster.com and they liked what they had seen.

They wanted to know if I would be willing to come in for an interview and check out the company and see if it is something i would be interested in. Honestly i had never done sales or insurance type work before so she explained what the company does which is transition elderly people for medicare or something like that. I had asked her what kind of qualifications i would need and she said that i would need a valid drivers license and something else but she didn't mention like a high school diploma or GED which i don't currently have. She couldn't tell me a base pay or ball park of what i could expect.

She did say that i would need to get a license to sell the insurance which she claimed the company pays for.

I don't know if i should bother going to the meeting tomorrow especially now since i have seen so many reports about it being a scam. I hate companies like that.
